Best AI tools for game coding and engines

Short answer

For writing gameplay and tool code in an existing engine, start with Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or Claude Code. If you want an AI-first engine that builds scenes with you, try Summer Engine (with optional MCP to the agent you already use). Unity AI and Roblox Assistant help inside those platforms, while Bolt and v0 are stronger for web prototypes than shipped native games.

These tools are listed because their official sites describe AI-assisted coding or AI-native game engines. Descriptions come from each vendor's site; we have not benchmarked code quality. How we review tools.

FAQ

What is the best AI tool for coding a game?

If you already use Unity, Unreal or Godot, Cursor, GitHub Copilot or Claude Code are the usual coding agents. If you want the AI inside the engine itself, Summer Engine positions an AI-native desktop engine with MCP support.

Can AI build a full game without coding?

Summer Engine says you can make games by chatting with Summer Agent or an MCP-connected agent, and you can still write native C++ or C# when you want control. Browser AI game makers are a different category and usually target web toys rather than Steam-ready builds.

How did you choose these tools?

Each tool's official site describes AI coding assistance or an AI game engine. We list what the vendor says and pricing signals we found; we do not run hands-on code benchmarks.

Which of these AI coding assistants and AI game engines tools have a free plan?
